Bio
Darwin is a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran who was involved in the evacuations of Cambodia and
Vietnam aboard the USS Vancouver LPD-2 in 1975.
Darwin has been a volunteer DAV driver for almost 5 years. When he first started, he was looking for something to do, a way to give back to his community. One day he was I was at the local VA Clinic, when a vet who was the transportation
dispatcher asked if Ihe would be interested in driving for the DAV. Being a retired electrician, in good health and one who enjoys driving, it was the perfect match for him.
Just after the Covid-19 lockdown, Darwin assumed the role of DAV dispatcher, which included recruiting new volunteer drivers. He currently ensures all vehicles under his direction are safe, maintained and clean for our Veterans. He is also responsible for the volunteer drivers under himself and scheduling pickup times and destinations for each Veteran's appointments.
Very few people were aware that DAV Transportation was up and running post Covid-19 lock down. It is his goal to get every Veteran who desires transportation for medical appointments at either the VA Medical Center, VA Primary Care Clinics and Community Care Providers on time and safely. |
